July 7 Chris Monteverde Band at Firehouse Saloon

Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma and raised in Houston, Chris Monteverde (Monte) started playing the guitar as a kid one summer when most of his friends were away on vacation or summer camp. He was fortunate enough to have an amazing Spanish and Classical teacher by the name of Ron Hudson who saw his potential and love for the music and took him under his wing. During this apprenticeship, Monte got very involved in the Classical and Spanish art forms. Gradually he started to hone in on the wonders of rock and roll and the power of lyrics. He spent a lot of time listening to his family’s records and taking what he could from them. Monte started writing his own music at age thirteen and has been performing ever since.
Monte made his way to Austin, TX and a band called Jabberwalkie, which had a brief but powerful stint on the Austin music scene. Another band, Lies A Bloom, lasted about two and a half years. Austin treated him very well, giving Monte the opportunity to call some of the best venues in the city home including Antone’s, The Saxon Pub, Momo’s and Stubbs. At the height of his days on the Austin music scene he was recruited by a band in Houston called Navasota Rio. Navasota was the last band to be signed to CBS Dunhill records in late 1974 and produced their first album with the three-time Grammy award winning Gary Katz who produced the likes of Steely Dan, Chaka Kahn and Joe Cocker.

Monte is now pursuing his own music and currently plays around Houston doing acoustic shows and some larger shows with his own bands. He can also be seen performing around the great state of Texas with famed Texas singer songwriter Rich O’Toole.
